Day 31 - Saturday, January 31, 2009

Tonight was hockey night! All 12 of us enjoyed most of the game (when we left we were losing) before we decided to pack it in. It was a great fundraiser for the school though!

Day 30 - Friday, January 30, 2009

Could we get anymore snow??? The kids were actually walking backwards for a block because the wind and snow were so blustery in our faces. Matt broke the sled yesterday so they had to walk today. A little more tired than usual! And there is more snow in the forecast...

Day 29 - Thursday, January 29, 2009

Here is Drew enjoying the amazing dessert we had at the Fishbowl tonight. MMMM! I also tried swordfish for the first time - not bad!

Day 28 - Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Remember how we took the Christmas tree outside a few weeks ago? Well it is still here and has been sitting beside the fire hydrant since then (3 weeks now?). It appears that somebody came by today to clear out the hydrants and there is our tree. Across the driveway.

Day 27 - Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Amish friendship bread - I saw that someone else had posted their baking of the same bread. Well that is how I spent most of my day. I received my first batter several weeks back but after dong this about 3 times now I ran out of time and thoughts of who to share it with. So I ended up with three batters and then needed to split it anyway - I think I baked up 6 batches? I did some exploring on the internet though and found some great information - new ways of baking it and a way to cut the batch so I don't have to share it with everyone. The kids love it and call it Ya-Ya bread since she is the person who shared it with us! Check out the recipe here if anyone is interested. Extremely easy and forgiving bread!

Day 26 - Monday, January 26, 2009

Today we had to head to the dentist to check on one of Matt's teeth. He mentioned on Saturday that a tooth of his got knocked at school the day before and since it was one with a cap on (that I thought wasn't supposed to fall out until he was 9) I got a little panicked. It turns out that after xrays revealed there aren't any roots anymore and the adult tooth is ready to come up, that everything is okay. He is free to wiggle it out and is overjoyed that the tooth fairy will once again visit. I'm glad that there will be one less shiny tooth to see! Oh lessons learned!

Day 25 - Sunday, January 25, 2009

The aftermath! We had a great night of skiing - other than the fact that it was freezing and my 20 year old boots just aren't cutting it anymore. Marlee had her first ride on the chair lift and a big person ski hill. Matt went down his first blue square run! They both did great! I even went down the black diamonds which I haven't done for a few years (what was I afraid of?). Now that the kids are in bed and I've had a bath to warm up, we are left with clean up, lunches and maybe bed?

Day 24 - Saturday, January 24, 2009

We spent the day rearranging the kids rooms. They were so excited! It was finally time to get the out dated clothes out of Marlee's room and give her the full bunk bed from Matt's room. And since Drew was home we could actually devote some time to it. Matt got my old trundle bed until we can get him a new bunk bed system. It's not great for snuggle time (it's a super single) but he likes it and that's what counts. Now he has a lot more floor space.

Day 23 - Friday, January 23, 2009

An early morning photo of Cierra - the poor girl has to be out for the bus at 7:28 am. Thank goodness the bus comes to our driveway but it sure has been COLD these last few days.

Day 22 - Thursday, January 22, 2009

Today was a MOPS day! B was sick and Andy was on duty with Carter so Marlee and I were able to get there on time. Discussion today was about preparing ourselves and our kids for the potential that God has given us - not society. Great to get out! Ali, one of the girls at our table (I'm a table leader) who, is wearing the fashionable MOPS clothing line (and got cut off - sorry), was just telling me how much Flylady is helping. YEY - I love it when something clicks for someone!

Day 21 - Wednesday, January 21, 2009

LOST starts today! I wasn't able to watch it but you can bet it is taped (better with PVR anyway - no commercials). I can't wait for this new season - people seem to be either die-hard fans or have lost interest. It has gotten a little crazy over the years but I for one am excited to see where it is going.

Day 20 - Tuesday, January 20, 2009

It was a historic day - America welcomed their first African American president (44th) today. I'm ashamed to say that I did not watch it and didn't pay too close attention to the election or the politics, but I would still like to catch up on his speech. There has certainly been a lot of controversy and conversation involved but if it gets people more interested in government and our amazing countries then I'm all for it. Change seems to be the buzz word and is on the horizon. I hope I will pay a little more attention now!

Day 19 - Monday, January 19, 2009

With Marlee still a little under the weather we thought it prudent to check that everything is okay (so awesome to have medical people in the family!!!). All is well and she enjoyed colouring while "hiding" on the doctor.

Day 18 - Sunday, January 18, 2009

We celebrated Nana's birthday today with a dinner out at C & B after skiing. Marlee was a little under the weather but was roused to enjoy the sparkler and the cake.

Day 17 - Saturday, January 17, 2009

Aunt Elsie turned 100 today! Mom and dad are in TBay celebrating at a tea at her nursing home. This is a picture of when we saw her in the summer. More on this discussion here.

Day 16 - Friday, January 16, 2009

More snow! And not so cold! The kids played outside for a bit before heading off to school this morning. LOVE this hill!

Day 15 - Thursday, January 15, 2009

Started back at pilates today - smaller group but I got to try the machines for the first time. Not too sure that I liked them though!

Thursday, January 15, 2009

Day 14 - Wednesday, January 14, 2009

No running today! I was dressed and ready to go but -29 degrees is just a little too cold for me. My hair froze just from my breathing when I took the kids to school. I had to settle for the eliptical instead.

Day 13 - Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Yes - we forgot to get the family Christmas tree picture and the tree is FINALLY going down today. Better late than never.

Day 12 - Monday, January 12, 2009

Followed this suggestion while getting gas. LOVE the easy pay but it means I always have to find a Shell gas station - if it means less time in this weather, so be it!

Day 11 - Sunday, January 11, 2009

We all went out to ball hockey at church this week - Marlee played off to the side while the boys played. After 1/2 hour she and I went inside to play and clean up the kinderchurch room.

Day 10 - Saturday, January 10, 2009

Saw the movie Fireproof at church in the evening. (Had to go to the late viewing - first one was SOLD OUT!) Actually an incredibly good movie - very thought provoking. I'd definitely like to see it again - maybe with our small group. And can I say that Kirk Cameron has improved with age?

Day 9 - Friday, January 9, 2009

Finally cleaning up the Christmas stuff. Flylady wanted it all put away by Friday so we could party!?! Well the tree is still up but everything else will be done by the end of the day.

Day 8 - Thursday, January 8, 2009

I actually took a nap today! I can't remember the last time I did but it was great!

Day 7 - Wednesday, January 7, 2009

Pouring over a spiderman search and find. So typical. You brought it home from the library and it immediately consumed you. That and the rubiks cube which daddy brought home from the landscaping show. Not sure how long that frustration will last before I hide it!

Day 6 - Tuesday, January 6, 2009

I defrosted the freezer today! I've been wanting to do this for ages and so I also did a complete inventory of what we have. Note to self - it took about 5 1/2 hours to totally defrost and the plastic drawers really saved a mess. We will be eating out of the freezer for the next while!

Day 5 - Monday, January 5, 2009

What a day! Lots of tears! Dad did the eulogy at Ralph's funeral today. VERY well done. We will miss him in our lives in a big way.

"Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!" Hebrews 13:1-2

Day 4 - Sunday, January 4, 2009

Drew took Matt and Cierra to play ball hockey at the church. Go guys go! Marlee and I had a little girl time. Apparently they had a good time (definitely more adults then kids) - and kept playing even though it started raining!

Day 3 - Saturday, January 3, 2009

Calendar time! I sat down and actually wrote out all of our schedules, birthdays and important dates for the whole year! (And used some of the stickers even!!!)

Day 2 - Friday, January 2, 2009

I spent some time reorganizing the office today while the kids explored my punches. Not that productive while they were in there so when my patience starting getting thin we sat down to watch Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat again. I had been singing the brother song ever since we got back from Israel and telling them about this great video... The rest is history - I think we may have a new family favourite!

Day 1 - Thursday, January 1, 2009

We started off the new year with our annual dinner at Melissa's. Low key - good company, good food and even continued the pajama day for the kids.

Project 365 Begins

I'm finally joining the bandwagon with my version of Project 365. Keep up to date with our lives as I post a picture a day for the next 365...

When I first read about this idea from Becky Higgins and Creating Keepsakes, I thought it might be too much work. The KOTM looked great though - just wasn't sure I could justify spending more money on another kit I haven't used yet. But then the kit sold out - glad I wasn't involved in THAT issue! However, I still began to take photos and (YIKES) actually journal each day about them. SOOO, I love the idea of taking a photo a day - so far it's been hard to narrow it down to one!

This was my original idea for my own album - to use the 5-insert album from Canadian Wholesale - and my own stash of papers. It holds 500 photos (see below). I would then journal for a few days in one pocket and later embellish the front cover. It was becoming a little too finicky for my time so I have opted instead to use up another area of "stash" - that being my leftover two-up pages with the paper in between. I'm going to store it in an empty album for now but would like to make my own cover at some point. I've run off daily "dates" using the tabs that come with it and cut up journaling papers. Ta da - ready to go!

Enjoy - TFL

Al

Added note: upon further contemplation (and laziness) I have decided that instead of a photo album, it will be much easier to turn this into a digital blog book at the end of the year. Come on back for further notice! And I hope it all works out! TFL!
